Estadio Metropolitano, Madrid, Spain.
Saturday 19th October.
Kick-off: 16:00 (CET)
Atlético Madrid have been struggling for goals since winning their first three games of the La Liga season. Their defence is still as reliable as ever, but they have only scored 7 goals so far this season - 13 fewer than title rivals Barcelona. If they are to mount a serious title challenge this season, Diego Costa and Álvaro Morata will have to up their game. They have both found goals difficult to come by in their returns to Atlético Madrid after being at Chelsea. The Valencia defence has been quite leaky until now with 12 goals conceded, so this is a great opportunity to get some goals under their belt. STS have odds of 2.75 if you think Costa will score during the match.
Valencia surprisingly fired their successful manager Marcelino in September and have been quite erratic in the league and Europe so far this season. They are up against a team with arguably the best defence in the world and Valencia will have to play like they did when they won last season’s Copa del Rey to get through this formidable backline. If you think the away side can get a win at the Metropolitano, you can get odds of Valencia winning by 1 goal at 5.85.
H2H and match
This could be an even match and with Atlético Madrid being well-organised; Valencia may find it difficult to have many scoring chances. Valencia manager Albert Celades is known for his defensive tactics and will be aware that Atlético struggle against teams who defend against them, so the two teams may well cancel each other out and this match could be a low-scoring affair. Valencia have a poor record against Diego Simeone’s side with their last win coming at the Mestalla in 2014 and their last away win was in 2011.
Injury and suspensions
Valencia have several injury problems with Kevin Gameiro, Carlos Soler, Geoffrey Kondogbia, José Gayà and Cristiano Piccini all on the long-term injury list. Defenders Šime Vrsaljko, Stefan Savić and winger Vitolo are on the treatment table for Atlético Madrid.
With Los Ches having an injury crisis and considering their poor record against Atléti, our betting tip is for Atlético Madrid to finally discover their shooting boots this season with them winning and both teams to score at 3.81.
