Euro 2020 Group Stages
Who needs what to grab that all-important automatic Euro 2020 spot? Here we take a look at the Euro 2020 Qualifiers taking place on Monday and Tuesday evening.
Germany and the Netherlands both booked their Euro 2020 places on Saturday - with a 4-0 win over Belarus and a 0-0 draw with Northern Ireland. The Dutch have a better H2H against Northern Ireland, so even if Michael O’Neill’s team win against the Germans and the Dutch lose, the Dutch will still advance.
One of two groups with all to play for. The Republic of Ireland will qualify for Euro 2020 if they beat Denmark in Dublin on Monday. Denmark only need to get a draw from this match to qualify for Euro 2020. It was an almost identical situation two years ago when Denmark thrashed Ireland 1-5 in Dublin during the 2018 World Cup play-offs as Christian Eriksen scored a hattrick in that match. You can get odds of 2.40 for the Danes to break Irish hearts once more. If there is a repeat result, all will not be lost for Ireland as they will be in next March's play-offs.
Switzerland only need a point against Gibraltar to progress.
Wales kept their hopes alive with a 2-0 win in Azerbaijan on Saturday. The Euro 2016 surprise semi-finalists will be guaranteed a place at Euro 2020 if they beat Hungary in Cardiff on Tuesday in a winner-takes-all game. A draw would give Slovakia a chance to usurp both teams if they beat Azerbaijan at the same time. The Hungarians managed a 1-0 win in Budapest during the previous qualification match with a late Máté Pátkai goal. They are 5.50 to win by the same scoreline in Cardiff. The Welsh will have Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey back for this match, making them a much tougher prospect.
Spain and Sweden are already through in Group F. The Spanish breezed through qualification and the Swedes sealed their place with a 0-2 win against closest rivals Romania on Friday.
Poland qualified comfortably in Group G whilst Austria confirmed their place with a win over North Macedonia on Saturday.
Belgium and Russia dominated this group without breaking a sweat; being far ahead of third-placed Scotland. The Scots have a lifeline in the form of the play-offs in March.
Italy have a 100% record in this group, and Finland reached a major tournament for the first time ever by beating Liechtenstein 3-0 at home on Friday. Can Italy extend their fine form in this group to Euro 2020? You can currently get odds of 13.00 for them to win Euro 2020 next summer.
