How to watch Lyon vs Bayern Munich?
The surprise package of the competition Lyon play tournament favourites Bayern Munich in the second semi-final of this season’s Champions League!
Lyon have provided the two biggest surprises of the tournament so far by knocking out Juventus in the round of 16 and then Manchester City 3-1 in their quarter-final match. Despite a dreadful league campaign, their Champions League form has been excellent, and they are one win from a first Champions League final. They have been in a Champions League semi-final before in which they also played Bayern Munich and were thrashed 4-0 on aggregate. A lot of people are expecting a similar result this time around too. Can Lyon shock the world yet again and defeat Bayern Munich? They are at 7.20 to advance to the final.
Bayern Munich were as devastating as ever as they recorded a whopping 8-2 win over Barcelona on Friday evening. They were favourites for that match, but nobody could have predicted that outcome with obvious comparisons being made to Germany’s 1-7 win over Brazil during the 2014 World Cup. At the moment, Bayern look invincible having won all of their matches since the restart. The Bavarians are at odds of 1.09 to make the Champions League final.
Lyon have shown that they are more than capable of springing a surprise or two and if they manage a win against Bayern Munich, it’d be the biggest one of the lot. Lyon pose a different challenge to Bayern’s previous opponents with faster players compared to Barcelona and Bayern may have to adjust their high line to counter that. Lyon will implement the same game plan as in their match against Manchester City — trying to catch their opponents out on the counter. Robert Lewandowski will be Bayern Munich’s main attacking threat, and the French side will need to neutralise him to stand a chance of winning this match. The Polish striker has 14 goals so far in this year’s campaign, and he’s at 1.30 to add to his tally.
Injuries and suspensions
Lyon: Youssouf Koné.
Bayern Munich: Benjamin Pavard (doubt).
Lyon can certainly cause problems for Bayern on the counter with their pacey attack, but we believe the Germans will have too much for them, and our tip is a Bayern Munich win and both teams to score at odds of 2.32.
